I am traveling to the moon
\nLong dirt roads wind through the forest
\nThe light is fading fast so I speed
\nI hit a rock and slow down
\nThe road splits, I turn left.
\nThe bushes close in, scrapping the sides of the car.
\nThis was a bad idea :\/
\nThe “shortcut” loops back
\nI\u2019m glad, I don\u2019t have to turn around
\nThe sun is gone, my headlight ignite.
\nIt\u2019s time to give up, I turn back
\nAnd see the sign
\nTurner mountain, 5 miles
\nWell\u2026okay
\nI turn again. Upwards!<\/p>\n

I count the miles now (and the bumps)
\n2 miles to go (I think I hit the oil pan)
\nA gasp comes from beside me,
\nThe Moon.
\nBig and round and golden
\nYellow as a rising sun breaking above the trees
\nIt\u2019s huge. <\/p>\n

At least 16% bigger than usual.
\nNo, closer, not bigger, Perigee?
\nWhatever, \u00bd mile to the summit.
\nThe road is much worse,
\nI up my air-fuel mixture and rocket up
\nAn hour\u2019s drive and we summit.

I walk straight to the moon
\nIgnoring the strange men loading a trailer
\nafter dark, on a mountain top
\n(robbing a cell tower?)
\nThe mountains lay before me, around me.
\nVolcanic Lassen casting shadows in the moonlight.
\nIt\u2019s cold, windy.
\nAll my pictures look like sunsets
\nA world of light. Or shadow
\nIsn\u2019t it always both?
\nEither way its super.
\nMy anxieties fade like the sun
\nI found peace for one more day
\nI let the car find the way home.
\nI\u2019m busy traveling to the moon.<\/p>\n
