When I was young
\nI thought that love would hit me someday
\nlike the icy water of a mountain lake
\nI would be instantly intensely aware,
\ncompletely immersed in love, overwhelmed.
\nAnd then I would know the way to be happy
\nthe solution to all my sorrows.<\/p>\n

I felt the water hit my face
\nagain and again,
\nI saw the shadows of attraction
\nAnd as I gasped for breath I saw
\nthat she stood on shore.
\nI had jumped in alone.
\nto feel the numbing pain.<\/p>\n

Other times I walked to the edge of the lake
\nand watched another jump in.
\nEagerly I waited for someone to push me
\nor pull me in. So we could swim together
\nI waited in vain
\nand left the wet face behind.<\/p>\n

Now I see.
\nLove may sometimes be accidental
\nBut most of the time, lasting times
\nLove is for those who leap into the lake
\nChoosing, together, to face the burning cold
\nAnd each time they surface, day after day
\nThey choose to dive in again.<\/p>\n

When I saw your eyes beckoning me in
\nI chose to jump in
\nHead over heals, completely immersed
\nDay after day, I will choose you
\nAnd as long as you choose me too,
\nWe will have love,
\nthe balm for all life’s sorrows.<\/p>\n
