I&#8217;m not saying I&#8217;ve done all of these&#8230;although I have done many&#8230; these are all little things that just might indicate that someone has a tendency towards the natural sciences.<\/p>\n<p>________________________________________________<\/p>\n<p>You frequently stop to catch up with the trees and introduce yourself to new ones as you walk around campus.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/blog.riley.rackliffe.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/blog.riley.rackliffe.org\/2010\/12\/Trees-of-California-2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-399 aligncenter\" title=\"Trees of California (2)\" src=\"http:\/\/blog.riley.rackliffe.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/blog.riley.rackliffe.org\/2010\/12\/Trees-of-California-2-e1292568994177-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Everywhere you go you are connecting the dots between organisms and their environment, this includes the dairy aisle.<\/p>\n<p>You kept a pet brine shrimp for 5 years and experienced significant sorrow when &#8216;he&#8217; died.<\/p>\n<p>You have to dig under the pile of leaves on your desk to find your homework.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/blog.riley.rackliffe.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/blog.riley.rackliffe.org\/2010\/12\/006.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-382 aligncenter\" title=\"006\" src=\"http:\/\/blog.riley.rackliffe.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/blog.riley.rackliffe.org\/2010\/12\/006-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>You have to dig under the pile of papers on your desk to find your leaves.<\/p>\n<p>You cheer when you hear the environmental messages of Avatar, Walle or the Day After Tomorrow.<\/p>\n<p>You can think of few things more poetically tragic than daffodils covered in snow.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/blog.riley.rackliffe.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/blog.riley.rackliffe.org\/2010\/12\/Winter-052.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-388 aligncenter\" title=\"Winter 052\" src=\"http:\/\/blog.riley.rackliffe.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/blog.riley.rackliffe.org\/2010\/12\/Winter-052-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>You are mildly irritated when someone calls it <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">dirt.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>You get disoriented and depressed when you walk through a Wal-Mart<\/p>\n<p>You have ever put a pine cone in the oven to simulate forest fires to see if you could get the seeds out<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/blog.riley.rackliffe.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/blog.riley.rackliffe.org\/2010\/12\/Yellowstone-serrotenous-cone-1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-384 aligncenter\" title=\"Yellowstone serrotenous cone (1)\" src=\"http:\/\/blog.riley.rackliffe.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/blog.riley.rackliffe.org\/2010\/12\/Yellowstone-serrotenous-cone-1-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>You carefully refrigerate, treat with hormones and plate out Redwood seeds on water agar to see if they will grow.<\/p>\n<p>In the library you intentionally avoid the natural history section because even walking through it takes you three hours.<\/p>\n<p>You take pride in walking to school. The colder or wetter the weather the more pride you feel.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"..\/wp-content\/uploads\/blog.riley.rackliffe.org\/2010\/12\/Windmills-spanish-fork-6.jpg\"><a href=\"http:\/\/blog.riley.rackliffe.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/blog.riley.rackliffe.org\/2010\/12\/Windmills-spanish-fork-6.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-380\" title=\"Windmills spanish fork (6)\" src=\"http:\/\/blog.riley.rackliffe.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/blog.riley.rackliffe.org\/2010\/12\/Windmills-spanish-fork-6-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><\/a><\/p>\n<p>You stop the car and pull out the camera for a Kodak moment when you pass by a wind turbine.<\/p>\n<h2>Environmentalists both terrify and fascinate you.<\/h2>\n<p>You can tell how good your day was by the amount and kind of dirt you find under your fingernails.<\/p>\n<p>Being alone on a cold, rainy mountainside miles from home sounds like an excellent way to spend your vacation time.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/blog.riley.rackliffe.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/blog.riley.rackliffe.org\/2010\/12\/Winter-094.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-387 aligncenter\" title=\"Winter 094\" src=\"http:\/\/blog.riley.rackliffe.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/blog.riley.rackliffe.org\/2010\/12\/Winter-094-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>You can argue with equal passion for both sides of Evolution, Global warming, DDT, Hunting rights, Intensive farming, Timber management, Fire control, Ethanol, population control, the solution to the energy crisis, and many other charged issues,<\/p>\n<p>Everyone thinks you will someday spend a few months chained to a pine tree in Oregon.<\/p>\n<p>You happen to know the scientific names of more than 5 organisms, one of which is the fungus growing in your shoe.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/blog.riley.rackliffe.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/blog.riley.rackliffe.org\/2010\/12\/group-shot1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-397 aligncenter\" title=\"group shot\" src=\"http:\/\/blog.riley.rackliffe.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/blog.riley.rackliffe.org\/2010\/12\/group-shot1-1024x682.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"527\" height=\"350\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>You went to Yellowstone on a class field trip and talked about it in every class period til the end of the year.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/blog.riley.rackliffe.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/blog.riley.rackliffe.org\/2010\/12\/2010-02-12-15.59.26.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-393 aligncenter\" title=\"2010-02-12 15.59.26\" src=\"http:\/\/blog.riley.rackliffe.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/blog.riley.rackliffe.org\/2010\/12\/2010-02-12-15.59.26-300x224.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"224\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Your major club also went on a field trip to visit Arches National Park for no reason other than to see it.<\/p>\n<p>You spent one evening taping ozone test strips around your apartment complex to see if it met EPA standards.<\/p>\n<p>No matter how bad your day has gone you pull out your camera and take a picture of the mountains even though this sunset looks just like yesterday&#8217;s.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blog.riley.rackliffe.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/blog.riley.rackliffe.org\/2010\/12\/park-plaza-times-4.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-381\" title=\"park plaza times (4)\" src=\"http:\/\/blog.riley.rackliffe.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/blog.riley.rackliffe.org\/2010\/12\/park-plaza-times-4-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"231\" height=\"173\" \/><\/a><a href=\"http:\/\/blog.riley.rackliffe.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/blog.riley.rackliffe.org\/2010\/12\/DSC04538.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-378\" title=\"DSC04538\" src=\"http:\/\/blog.riley.rackliffe.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/blog.riley.rackliffe.org\/2010\/12\/DSC04538-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"231\" height=\"173\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>You took a picture of the mountains yesterday also,<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blog.riley.rackliffe.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/blog.riley.rackliffe.org\/2010\/12\/DSC04520.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-379\" title=\"DSC04520\" src=\"http:\/\/blog.riley.rackliffe.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/blog.riley.rackliffe.org\/2010\/12\/DSC04520-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>You feel guilty for using all the hot water, not out of concern for your roommates but because of the energy costs.<\/p>\n<p>You collect recycling then carry it over to the dorms at night to sneak it into their recycling bins.
