Jerusalem in the last days

A rough time line by Riley Rackliffe based mostly on Zechariah 8-14

  • Initial stages
  • Time of the Gentiles began with the sacking of Jerusalem in 70 AD. It will end and the time of the Jews will return beginning this chronology. There are two possible endings to the times of the gentiles. The liberation of Jerusalem by Jews in 1948 (the first time Jerusalem has been controlled by Jews in 2000 years) or it begins when the Gentile nations reject the missionaries and the elders are recalled from their missions. Destructions then hit the gentiles (testimony of earthquakes D&C 88:87-91) and the elders are reassigned to Preach to the Jews. Thus time of the gentiles refers to their time to receive the gospel. Anyway, when it ends this stuff starts happening.
  • Jews will be gathered once more to Jerusalem and Israel. Jerusalem will be so full of people that they will live outside of the walls. The Jews will not necessarily believe in Christ at this point. They will convert en masse when he shows up.
  • All Nations will gather there to pray, children play in streets and old people live there (with staves).
  • The temple will be rebuilt by the JEWS. (Some prophets have said “Jews that believe in the true Messiah” which would be a minority if it is true as most Jews won’t believe in Christ until he stands before them.) The “Mosque of the Muslim that stands in its way” will be removed. This is before Armageddon and before the 2 prophets. He enters through the East Gate to the temple. – EZEKIEL 43:2-4 (the golden gate). Christ will return to his temple at some point (suddenly).
  • A river flows out of Jerusalem to the Dead Sea and the Med Sea. It heals the dead sea of its saltiness allowing fishermen to fish the waters. It will be larger than a man can throw a rock across. The area around Jerusalem is lifted up and flattened to make a nice plain. There will be no more Utter Destruction (no more Canaanites; physically or spiritually?). The land will be healed and become productive like the Garden of Eden. EZEKIEL 47:1-10
  • Armageddon
  • Eventually Nations will gather to attack and destroy. They will take the city, rob the houses, rape the women and capture half the city (it’s possible this refers to Jerusalem in the 1950s) They will have success but eventually God starts fighting and they lose very badly, ultimately getting all kinds of nasty curses. Known as the army of Armageddon.
  • o (Somewhere in here two prophets are preaching in Jerusalem, after 3 years they are killed ushering in an earthquake. They are resurrected after 3 ½ days and ascend into heaven while the world watches (TV, internet, twitter?) The Earthquake destroys 10% of the city and kills 7,000 people.
  • Christ comes down and places his foot on the Mount of Olives splitting it in two (part moving north (towards BYU-JC) and part moving south) creating a valley through which the remaining Jews escape. This earthquake divides the city in three sections and hits most of the earth to great worldwide destruction. REV 16:18-21
  • 2/3rds of the Jews are killed in this mess leaving the remainder to be refined like silver and become holy. (Think the sons of Levi being refined like Silver so they can offer unto the Lord an Offering in Righteousness- Malachi 3:3) The Jews somewhere in here will see the marks on Christ’s hands and ask where they came from. He will reply “these are the wounds whereby I was wounded in the house of my friends” Everything will click and the Jews will mourn their mistake.
  • Millennium
  • Initially (this is post 2nd coming but pre millennium) Jerusalem will be 8 sq miles. This is much smaller than it is right now by Israeli standards. By the end of the millennium it will be combined with the NEW Jerusalem (Zion) in Jackson County to make one mega capital which will be 1500 miles CUBED. Right CUBED! (see Rev 21:10-27)
  • No longer needs light because GOD LIVES THERE and he is the light of it.
  • The description of the Heavenly City (Zion) is in Revelation. However it transcends Jerusalem because it includes all righteous people from all time periods and all other Zion cities even if they are separated by time or space.
