Galilee, the photo blog

This is a little unorganized but here is the lowdown of the Galilee trip. I picked some 30 of my favorite pictures, out of 900, and wrote a little about each one. Just know alot of other things happened in those 10 days. We saw a lot of things and many many towns. It was a wonderful trip

: During the tour of the Golan heights we stopped next to the border with Syria. Technically they are still at war. I was able to take a picture of the Syria flag across the area controled by the UN

: This is a Protestant Christian site far from the actually site (probably) Lots of Pilgrims come here to rebaptize themselves.

: The sea from the middle of it

: This is the water tunnel dug in Meggido to bring water from the well outside the city walls into the city. We’ve been in a number of these and this is one of the more impressive

: This is the limit of the kingdom of Israel anciently. They had a golden calf for a while too.

: This is a bunker that was captured back in the 67 war. Most of these have been turned into war memorials and you can do pretty much anything there

: Yes, they still have active mine fields in the Golan Heights

: Across from our hotel spot was the city of Tiberias. Once home of Herod Antipas its a pretty good view

: St Peter’s fish, a native speices to the sea of Galilee which may have been something Christ ate

: This is the rock where Jesus fed his apostles fish after his resurrection

: The big church over the Joseph and Mary house. Its the biggest church in the middle east

: The church at a small town called nain where a certain widow had her life changed

: a really cool mosaic on Mt Tabor in the church of the transfiguration

: Near here Christ taught the sermon on the mount. I wonder where he got the idea for wheat and tares

: The place where Elijah called down fire from heaven buring up a very wet sacrifice. He also killed several hundred false Priests

: This is how I entertain myself on buses

: Rafting on the Jordan river (above the sea of Galilee)

: It reminded me of home, except for the arabic part

: In Haifa I found proof that Israel has Nuclear energy. I guess that wasn’t such a big secret

: That little pointy hill once held a Jewish town that was utterly destroyed by the romans in a masada-type battle

: The black line of stone is basalt from a synagogue dating to the time of Christ. The white stones are from a 5th century synagogue built on top. Christ probably taught here.

: that weird building is on top of the house of Simon Peter, where Christ once lived for a time

: All that water comes from a single spring coming out from under that cliff in the background. This is where Peter declared, “thou art the Christ, the Son of the Living God”
