How to ruin an introvert’s day
Make him fall in love
Smile at him a little too often
Praise his insight sincerely, just once.
Stare at him in the eyes for a moment too long before looking away.
Then leave him to his thoughts.
He will continue on his way
He will continue to study the world
He will continue to make small positive differences everywhere he goes
He will continue to be cordial, polite, and quiet to everyone
But he will be thinking of you.
When he buckles down to analyze a difficult problem he will first and lastly think of you.
When he greets people in the office he will think about you
When he listens to music he will think about you.
He will check his phone a little too often, hoping you have called.
He will check his calendar and wonder when next he will meet you
He will compose poetry, sermons, and impassioned declarations for you that you will never hear
With a last glance at his phone he will go to bed, dreaming of you
Absolutely miserable that you are not there.
